Choosing ANY Latin Dance Instructor!

Before you decide on a dance instructor with whom you will spend your precious time, money and energy, ask yourself these 6 important questions...

1.) Does your instructor have a solid, proven curriculum to help you achieve your particular goals?

You can take a basic salsa lesson anywhere. But when the class is over, how do you know when you’re ready to move to the next level? Did your instructor really cover all the bases?

Latin Rhythms has been teaching successfully for over 3 years. In that time period, the classes have gotten more advanced, streamlined and comprehensive, thanks to student feedback and Maricza Valentin’s artistic direction.

For instance, our salsa and mambo classes have been boiled down to a science. You won’t waste time learning stuff you don’t need to learn. We have helped thousands of students perfect their dancing… and thousands of students have helped us perfect our teaching methods.

For serious and enthusiastic students, we have popular supplemental classes which dive further into strengthening the fundamentals of leading and following, styling, tricks, footwork, shines and more! These classes are designed to take you to the BIG leagues!

2.) Does your instructor have a proven record of performing or dancing in the real world, what they teach?

There’s an old saying, “Those who don’t know, teach.”

That statement couldn’t be further from the truth at Latin Rhythms. All of our instructors dance and or perform the exact same dance styles they teach. Not, “used to dance back in the day…” - but currently AND consistently.

Plus, under the strict guidance of Artistic Director, Maricza Valentin, you can be assured that each style taught is respective of the native dance and the latest techniques and styles are being shared with you.

3.) Does your instructor have successful students who can provide proof of the validity of the instruction?

This question should have been #1 on this list. Any successful instructor has successful students. Not just happy students, but happy students who can dance exactly they way the instructor promised. And then some!

4.) Does your instructor get a majority of their students via word of mouth referrals and repeat students?

Any instructor or studio can open their doors, advertise and get a few students. But like any successful business interested in LONG-TERM success, repeat business and word of mouth referrals are the most reliable signs of a high quality product or service.

5.) Is your instructor caring and supportive?

It’s crazy but true. We’ve heard students tell us they were yelled at from instructors at other dance studios. Why do they bother teaching? This is why students are taking lessons in the first place… to receive guidance on subjects they currently do not understand!

6.) Does your instructor have respect for the fundamentals?

A great Latin dancer has passion, finesse & style… but without the proper understanding of the history, music, technique, you can’t do the “fancy” stuff.

Latin Rhythms is heralded by many as being a “youthful and hip” school. While we try to stay abreast of the hottest styles danced in the clubs and social settings, we ALWAYS respect the fundamentals. Without the proper foundation, no one, not even Latin Rhythms could grow and progress as dancers.

All of our classes will teach you the proper skills and steps so you understand the history of the dance. We also help you understand the “how and the why” of footwork, and styling. It is one thing to teach you a bag of tricks to memorize step by step… it is another thing to teach you how to open up your own creativity while respecting the fundamental steps.
